Scranton, Pa. – Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) has received $7,500 in grant funding from the PNC Foundation in support of workforce development projects.
The award will allow Goodwill Industries of NEPA to provide tools for job seekers, support for employers, and digital literacy sessions through virtual sessions, practical training, and networking opportunities.
“We are grateful for PNC Foundation’s continued generosity in supporting our workforce development initiatives,” said Kate Dempsey Jones, Goodwill Industries of NEPA president and chief executive officer. “The funding will help Goodwill to address critical labor market needs and deliver essential support to both area employers and individuals seeking employment.”
As part of the project, Goodwill will present six lunch and learn sessions all highlighting artificial intelligence (AI) and how the technology can help both job seekers. The virtual sessions will cover topics including power skills, the job market, resumes and cover letters, the interview process, real world problem solving, and digital literacy during the job search.
Goodwill will also offer a series of free digital literacy classes through NorthStar that will help individuals acquire the computer skills needed in today’s workplace. Individuals will complete a series of self-guided modules, review assessment results, and access targeted, interactive lessons to improve their skills. Learners will be able to earn certificates to help with landing a job.
The final piece of Goodwill’s workforce development project will be a community job fair that will create a bridge between job seekers and employers looking to hire workers.
Goodwill Industries of NEPA is a private, non-profit community-based organization that has been serving the region for over 80 years and strives to strengthen lives, families, and communities one person at a time.
