COVID-19 Update

UPDATE June 10, 2020

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF NORTHEASTERN PA STORES & DONATION CENTERS REOPENING

During this COVID-19 pandemic, our first and foremost concern is, as always, the health and safety of our clients, employees, and their families. Goodwill is committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible. A team comprised of leaders from various departments have worked diligently to develop policies and procedures to help keep everyone safe and healthy as we continue to reopen. The guidance set forth by the Governor, Department of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and other regulating bodies is incorporated into our reopening plans. As we continue through phased reopening, we continue to be as transparent with our team and community.

For our retail shoppers, specific guidelines are in place to make your shopping experience safe and pleasant. Practices to ensure this include:

  • Reduced capacities in each store; customers will be allowed in as others exit
  • Increased cleaning and sanitation schedules
  • Dedicated hours for vulnerable shoppers, including those over 65, on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-11am
  • Required face coverings for shoppers and our team members
  • Visual reminders for social distancing throughout our stores
  • Fitting rooms temporarily closed to mitigate the risk of spread
  • Reduced hours so that our team has more time to thoroughly clean each day

Donors can feel comfortable and safe while donating their goods to us with protocols that include:

  • Minimum contact donations; bins will be placed outdoors for donors to drop their donations when weather permits
  • Requiring face coverings for donors and team members when donation requires contact
  • Donated goods are untouched for a minimum of 24 hours prior to thorough sanitation and processing for the sales floor

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, Goodwill leadership monitors changes and creates guidance and practices accordingly to protect our team.

We hope you are all safe and healthy. We look forward to serving our community together.

UPDATE March 23, 2020

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF NORTHEASTERN PA STORES & DONATION CENTERS ARE NOW CLOSED

In order to keep our community healthy, all of our stores and donation centers are temporarily closed. You can still support us and find unique treasures at shopgoodwill.com/Scranton.

Our social enterprise of stores provides resources and opportunities for job counseling, training, placement and coaching for people with barriers to employment in our community. This makes our closure the more difficult, but necessary to protect the health of our associates, our donors, our customers and our community at this unprecedented time.

Once it is safe and appropriate to resume normal operations, we’ll be relying on your donations more than ever. We ask that you kindly save your donations or when we reopen. Please do not leave items outside of our doors as we are unable to collect them at this time. We greatly value your donations and do not want them to go to waste due to damage from the elements.

We encourage those who wish to help people in need in our community to visit our website at www.goodwillnepa.org, where we will gratefully accept your financial support. Stay safe, we’ll see you soon.

A message from our CEO:

At Goodwill Industries of NEPA, we rely on our community to support each other for the greater good.

We want to assure you that we are doing everything at our disposal to ensure the health and safety of our employees, those we serve, and our donors and customers. We are following all recommendations and best practices regarding COVID-19 preparedness as outlined by CDC, WHO, and the Commonwealth of PA.

As such, we are implementing necessary changes in our day to day operations in order to best serve our community.

  • All retail stores throughout our 11-county territory are closed until March 31, 2020, or until such time it is deemed safe to reopen.
  • As directed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Community Participation Supports and Small Group Employment programs are closed through 3/31/20.
  • Our community living arrangements, which provide housing to adults with disabilities, continue to operate. Intensive cleaning and disinfection protocols are in place to mitigate risks of COVID-19 and all unnecessary travel is suspended until further notice.
  • Intensive sanitation and disinfectant protocols are in place to mitigate risks of COVID-19 in all office settings.

Goodwill Industries of NEPA could not provide services to our individuals without the generous support of our community and the donations the community provides. We kindly ask that you hold your donations until March 31, 2020 or such time that we are able to safely reopen our stores.

And, while it is not business as usual in our retail or prevocational programs, you can still support us through shopping at Shopgoodwill.com/Scranton, or other options available on our website.

We urge you to stay safe by following guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization!

Sincerely,
Kate Dempsey Jones
CEO
