Scranton, Pa. — Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) recently donated two desktop computers to The Recovery Bank, Scranton. The organizations collaborate to present a Goodwill Job Club that is designed to help individuals during their employment search.
Individuals seeking assistance through The Recovery Bank will use the computers as part of their job search and learn computers skills needed to succeed. Goodwill Industries of NEPA’s donation is part of its on-going collaboration with The Recovery Bank as both organizations work to provide individuals with barriers to success a second chance.
“At Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Pennsylvania, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity for a rewarding career,” said Kate Dempsey Jones, Goodwill Industries of NEPA chief executive officer. “We hope this donation will help individuals during their search for employment and improve employee readiness.”
“It has been an honor and privilege for The Recovery Bank to collaborate with Goodwill and develop the Goodwill Job Club at The Recovery Bank,” said Frank Bolock, The Recovery Bank executive director. “The computers donated by Goodwill will be used by Recovery Bank participants each day as they put into practice the skills they acquire through participation with the Goodwill Job Club.”
“Lack of proper employment is among the obstacles that Recovery Bank participants encounter in overcoming alcoholism and substance use disorder and we are grateful to Goodwill for the computer donation and for the difference they make in the lives of so many of our participants,” continued Mr. Bolock.
The Job Club sessions, which are held twice a week at The Recovery Bank, are led by a Goodwill certified employment specialist and covers networking, social supports, skills training, and job search tools to help job seekers effectively match with employers.
The Recovery Bank is a non-profit, peer-driven recovery support center for persons who have experienced addiction to alcohol or drugs along with their loved ones. With a focus on helping each other live life to the fullest, volunteer partnerships and quality programming help make positive change.
Goodwill Industries of NEPA is a private non-profit community-based organization that has been serving the region for over 80 years and strives to strengthen lives, families, and communities one person at a time.
